Okay, so hear me out - I have a Masters degree and am currently living with my parents until I find a job. I lived in Baltimore for the past 2 years for grad school and do have friends in the DC area - I know it is very expensive to live near DC from their experience. Anyway, I noticed someone is hiring for someone in a skill that I provide, and they had contacted me and are interested in hiring me. It is only part time for now and I would start out making $450 a week...but it may grow over time. I also suspect to do freelance work on the side (I'm a musician). Anyway, I was wondering if I only had this one job to start out with for $450 a week (plus some taxes will be taken out..), would I be able to live comfortably in or near Rockville? Are there close towns near there that are cheaper? I also have to consider making car and student loan payments. Would it be possible to have a live-in nanny position there that is flexible to work with my afternoon/evening work hours (not sure if it's a big family area)? Any advise would help. I would like to start being independent, but if I won't be able to live comfortably then I would rather stay where I currently live until something else comes up (but who knows when that will be). Also - is the traffic there horrendous? I'm not sure I can take DC traffic, but if it's not quite as bad then I should be okay. Thanks!... Read More »
